It’s hard to believe that 2015 is already drawing to a close. As we say farewell to the past year, we also look forward to the many new and exciting things that are to come in 2016 and beyond. Did you know that there are things you can do to improve your chances of achieving success in the coming months, both personally and for your property management organization as a whole? Here are a few helpful tips on preparing for a lucrative new year.
Recap your year
List the things that went well and allow yourself the opportunity to celebrate them. At the same time, identify those areas where you weren’t so effective. When you examine your successes as well as your failures, you can start to get a better picture of what you might want to strive for and improve moving forward.

Clear out clutter
It’s always good to start with a clean slate, and that includes your property management work area. Get rid of things you no longer need and organize those that you do in a way that makes it easy and efficient to find what you need. By cleaning your desk as well as your electronic workspace, you’ll be able to start the New Year fresh and uncluttered.

What issues have you been struggling with, both in your personal life and your professional life? Rather than carry that over into the New Year, why not clear your conscience and close those chapters? Make it a point to seek out those with whom you’ve struggled and work toward reaching a resolution everyone can feel comfortable with. It might not be easy, but it’ll be worth it.
List the skills you’d like to improve
Dig deep and think about what areas of your life you’d like to improve upon over the next 12 months. Aim for a list of 3-5 so you’ll have something tangible to work toward but won’t end up feeling overwhelmed.
Set some main objectives
You’ve probably already got several long-term objectives for your property management business, but what about for yourself or your team? It’s always helpful to kick the New Year off with a set of goals to work toward.
Create quarterly to-do lists
Determining what you’d like to accomplish over the next 12 months can seem overwhelming. Instead, make it more manageable by creating a to-do list you can focus on for the first quarter alone. Then, toward the end of each quarter, start your list for the next one.
Welcoming a new year is an exciting time, but if you wait too long to start preparing, you’ll wind up behind the eight ball. Get a head start and hit the ground running by planning ahead, and you’ll set yourself and your organization up for greater success in the months to come. Cheers to a happy, healthy and productive new year!
